This policy explains what personal data Our Relationship Counter (the "App", including this website) processes, why, who it is shared with, and the rights you have. It is written to meet the main privacy laws that apply to the App, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR, US state laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK), Brazil's LGPD, Canada's PIPEDA and Australia's Privacy Act, as well as Apple App Store and Google Play requirements.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller (the "business" under CCPA) is the developer of the App, Our Relationship Counter. You can reach us through the Support page.
What data we process
- Account data: your name, email address and password. The password is stored only in a non-reversible (hashed) form. With Sign in with Apple, we receive the name and the email address (or Apple's private relay address) that Apple shares.
- Shared space data: your and your partner's names, your relationship start date and, if you enter it, time, and an optional couple photo.
- Your content: memories (title, date, time, note, optional photo), planned events, special days, and the "things we'll do together" list.
- Subscription data: your purchase status, subscription plan and an anonymous purchase ID. Payment card details never reach us; payments are handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Device preferences: theme, counter style, language and notification settings are stored on your device. Reminder notifications are scheduled locally on your device.
- Technical data: like any online service, our providers process your IP address, device type and basic request logs for a limited time to deliver the service, keep it secure and fix errors.
- Support messages: if you write to us, we process your email address and the message to reply to you.
What we do not do: we show no ads, we do not sell your personal data, we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising, we use no third-party advertising or analytics trackers in the App, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. We make no automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Sensitive information. The App does not ask for sensitive categories of data. However, the fact that two people are in a relationship, and the photos and notes you add, can reveal private details. You decide what to enter. We process this content only to provide the features you use, and we never use it for advertising, profiling or any other purpose.
Why we process it and on what legal basis
- To provide the App and your account (create the account, share the space with your partner, show your memories, dates and counters, manage your subscription). Basis: performance of our contract with you (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)); KVKK Art. 5(2)(c).
- To keep the service secure and fix bugs, and to prevent abuse. Basis: our legitimate interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f); KVKK Art. 5(2)(f)).
- Optional features you turn on — for example a couple photo, or reminder notifications. Basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by removing the photo or changing the setting. Withdrawal does not affect processing done before it.
- To meet legal obligations such as tax, accounting and responding to lawful requests. Basis: legal obligation (GDPR Art. 6(1)(c); KVKK Art. 5(2)(ç)).
International transfers
Our providers may process data in countries other than yours, including outside the EU/EEA, the UK, Turkey and Brazil. Where required, transfers rely on an adequacy decision, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, Standard Contractual Clauses, or other safeguards allowed by law (for example the safeguards required under KVKK Art. 9). You can request a copy of the safeguards at the contact address.
How long we keep data
We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account, your account data and the content you own are deleted. If you are the only person in the shared space, the space, memories, dates and photos are deleted too; if your partner is still in the space, the shared space stays with them. Data is removed from backups within a reasonable time. We keep only what the law requires us to keep (for example purchase records held by Apple and Google, and records needed to resolve disputes) and only for as long as required. Support messages are kept only as long as needed to answer you and resolve the issue.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access your data and receive a copy, and port it to another service;
- Correct inaccurate data;
- Delete your data ("right to be forgotten");
- Restrict or object to processing, and withdraw consent;
- Know the categories of data collected, disclosed and sold or shared (CCPA/CPRA) — we sell and share none;
- Not be discriminated against for using your rights;
- Under KVKK Art. 11, learn whether your data is processed, request information, learn the purpose and recipients, request correction or deletion, object to outcomes of automated analysis, and request compensation for damage from unlawful processing;
- Complain to your local data protection authority (for example your EU/EEA supervisory authority, the UK ICO, the Turkish KVKK Board, Brazil's ANPD, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, the OAIC, or the California Privacy Protection Agency).
How to use your rights. Change your name, email and password under Profile > My account, and delete your account in the same place. You can also delete your account from this website at Delete Account. For any other request use the Support page. We may need to verify your identity first. We reply within one month (30 days; 45 days for CCPA requests, extendable where the law allows). An authorized agent may make a request for you with your written permission. We do not charge for requests unless they are manifestly unfounded or excessive. "Do Not Sell or Share" and "Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information" opt-outs are not needed because we do neither.
Children
The App is not directed to children. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country if higher). We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (COPPA) or under the applicable age. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it promptly.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Files are kept in a private store and only authorized members of the shared space reach them through time-limited signed links. Access to data is limited by row-level security rules. No system is completely secure. If a breach affecting your data occurs, we will notify you and the authorities as the law requires (for example within 72 hours to the supervisory authority under GDPR, and as required by KVKK).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will announce important changes in the App or on this page and update the date above. If a change needs your consent, we will ask for it. The current text is always at relationshipcounter.app/privacy/.
